The tau chaperone CHIP is present in many neurodegenerative tauopathies, e.g., in neurofibrillary tangles and dystrophic neurites of senile plaques in AD. (A, B) Pick bodies in PiD; (C), globose tangles and tufted astrocytes in PSP; and (D, E) oligodendroglial coiled bodies and threads in CBD (F). CHIP co-localizes with tau and ubiquitin, seen in serial sections immunostained for phospho-tau (G), CHIP (H), and ubiquitin (I). CHIP staining in a PiD case (J) and pre-absorption with CHIP synthetic peptide (K). (From Petrucelli et al., 2004.)
