Bio

I trained and worked as a veterinary surgeon from 1991 before completing a PhD in molecular medicine at the University of Auckland in 2004. As a post doctoral researcher I have worked in Brisbane (Eskitis Institute) and Sydney (Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute and University of Sydney). My research interest is the neuropathology, transcriptomics and genetic epidemiology of neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD) and chronic alcoholism. My research group primarily uses human postmortem brain tissue, but we are also involved in collaborative teams that utilise patient-derived stem cells and transgenic animal models to understand the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases.
