The project that led to this paper was turned down for funding by the precursor to the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, with the terse comment, “This is a ridiculous hypothesis.” It did more than open up Alzheimer’s disease research. It started the field of neuroinflammation, which is now thriving in brain research. I am pleased to see that there are professors of neuroinflammation and even departments of neuroinflammation.
