verall the findings are very exciting since this is the first time that synuclein seeds have been found in blood of this many synucleinopathy cases. The assay is in early stages of development as there are several technical issues to resolve before thinking of offering this to the population, but it is an important first step.
The next step will be independent replication, which has been challenging for previously reported methods claiming diagnostic power in blood. The authors also detected synuclein seeds in some prodromal subjects, suggesting that a fully developed blood assay could be used as a screening tool, which would be a significant step forward for the field in both basic research and clinical management of these diseases.
