The benefits of melatonin have been touted for some time. It is a potent anti-oxidant that crosses the blood brain barrier. It can be taken clinically, as a neutraceutical, although high doses of melatonin cause depression. Dr. Pappola's team has been investigating another potentially important property of melatonin - it's ability to inhibit Ab aggregation. This is an interesting article that furthers their prior observations by demonstrating the ability of melatonin to inhibit Ab aggregation induced by apoE. -Benjamin Wolozin.
