  1. This study is most interesting. It gives strong evidence that manipulation of the innate immune system is an important therapeutic target for AD. The authors have shown that stimulation of innate immunity via TLR9 leads to reduction in both Aβ and tau-related pathology. It is important that tau pathology was also reduced, as there is some controversy in the literature as to whether innate immunity stimulation is beneficial for this type of pathology. The data are consistent with genetic studies showing the linkage of a number of genes involved in innate immunity to late onset AD, such as TREM2, CLU, CR1, CD33 and others. The results presented in this paper are exciting and demonstrate the feasibility of such novel therapeutic approach for AD.
