Because nicastrin is part of the gamma-secretase complex, understanding its function is of great importance. Nicastrin was recently shown to have sequence homology to aminopeptidases. This current report addresses this issue and demonstrates that nicastrin does not have aminopeptidase activity, which argues against a direct role for nicastrin in proteolysis. -- Benjamin Wolozin
