The abstract of this paper suggests that phosphorylation of tau at the 12E8 epitope (Ser 262/356) epitope does not play a significant role in microtubule binding in differentiated SY5Y cells. This finding needs to be viewed in light of earlier work indicating a significant effect of Ser 262 on microtubule binding of tau.
