Description

The Pottier Laboratory at Washington University School of Medicine has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate. The overarching goal of the laboratory is to identify disease-associated events that may serve as both therapeutic targets and biomarkers for early onset dementia such as early onset Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia. The lab's research leverages comprehensive genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic analyses within highly characterized and unique cohorts. It is looking for a postdoctoral fellow that will lead projects that involve genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics. The successful candidate will leverage unique population cohorts and innovative approaches to discover pathways related to disease presentation.

The Pottier Laboratory is part of the NeuroGenomics and Informatics Center. It is dedicated to generating and analyzing whole-genome sequencing data along with high-throughput, multi-dimensional omics data to advance the understanding of neurodegeneration.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Generate and evaluate research findings and assist in the reporting of the results.

2. Assist in the design of research experiments.

3. Prepare and submit papers on research.

4. Assist with grant preparation and reporting.

5. Conscientious discharge of research responsibilities.

6. Maintain conformity with ethical standards in research.

7. Maintain compliance with good laboratory practice including the maintenance of adequate research records

8. Engage in open and timely discussion with his/her mentor regarding possession or distribution of material, reagents, or records belonging to their laboratory and any proposed disclosure of findings or techniques privately or in publications.

9. Collegial conduct toward co-trainees, staff members, and members of the research group.

10. Adherence to all applicable university policies, procedures and regulations. All data, research records, and materials and other intellectual property generated in university laboratories remain the property of the university.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in ggenetics, bioinformatics, computer science, data science, statistical enomics, or a related discipline involving the interrogation of omics datasets, or expect to obtain a degree in the near future.
  • Practical experience with PLINK, SKAT, Seurat, or similar gene-based association tools.
  • Proficiency in conducting association studies and/or single nuclei RNA sequencing analyses.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Solid skills in at least one programming languagge (R, python, or Perl) and experience working in Linux and/or high-performance cluster environments.
  • A strong ability to perform analytical reasoning to extract biological insights from data-driven approaches.
  • Familiarity with interrogation of publicly available resources (highly beneficial).
  • Familiarity with genetics of neurodegenerative disorders.
