Description

There is an opening for a postdoctoral scholar with the Wisconsin Registry for Alzheimer’s Prevention (WRAP), a longitudinal cohort study of late-middle-aged adults, enriched with risk for Alzheimer’s disease. The project plays a major role in our field in charting the development of AD at the person level from the age the pathology first appears (which varies widely from person to person) to eventual symptoms. To do this we have amassed and continue to collect a comprehensive panel of biomarkers longitudinally such as PET markers of amyloid and fibrillar tau, MRI indicators of vascular disease, and arrays of plasma and CSF markers of both AD and non-AD neurodegenerative processes. WRAP is studying the person-level onset of disease proteinopathy, rates of change, and relationship to subsequent cognitive decline. WRAP is ideally positioned to make new discoveries on the health and lifestyle factors that shorten or lengthen the preclinical window of time and the genetic underpinnings of these processes.

Responsibilities

The specific responsibilities will depend on the training goals of the scholar, but may include analyses regarding validating cutting-edge imaging and fluid biomarkers or novel applications of statistical methods, detecting the earliest manifestation of cognitive decline, or other topics of interest.

The incumbent is expected to travel to and present at conferences and other meetings and is expected to lead and collaborate on scientific publications.

The postdoctoral scholar will also learn the ins and outs of running a longitudinal study by direct involvement with some of the logistical and operational aspects of the study itself.

Requirements

Ph.D. in a relevant field such as psychology, neuroscience, medical physics, biostatistics, or other related field with evidence of training in experimental design and a track record of publication. The day-to-day work experience will be onsite at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
