Description

Responsibilities: Examination and dissection of fresh and fixed autopsy human brains. Drafting preliminary neuropathology report. Diagnostic screening of histological slides. Archiving of fixed and frozen specimens and histological slides. Maintaining database of archived specimens. Receiving and processing tissue requests from researchers at Hopkins and extramurally. 

This includes communication with requesting investigators, identification of appropriate tissue samples, dissection, and shipping. Participation in collaborative research involving donated human brain tissue.

The Fellow will teach the pathology house staff on the cutting and dissection of postmortem brains according to specific research protocols. The Fellow will also have the opportunity to prepare clinical-pathological conferences for the JHU Alzheimer’s Disease Center, the Parkinson’s Disease Center, and the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging.

Requirements

M.D. or Ph.D. with experience in human autopsy pathology and/or human neuroanatomy.
