The Genius of Marian
The 2014 documentary “The Genius of Marian” follows the life of Pamela White, a Massachusetts woman diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 61. The film recounts the emotional and physical impact on White and her family as the disease progresses, and portrays what researchers are up against as they search for ways to combat Alzheimer’s (see May 2014 news story). White started the project as a book about her mother, painter Marian Williams Steele, who died of AD in 2001. Following White’s own diagnosis with AD a year later, she and her son, filmmaker Banker White, decided to tell the family’s story on film instead. “The Genius of Marian” has won regional awards and was screened at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
