Brain Banks
Epilepsy Society Brain and Tissue Bank (ESBTB)
Institute of Neurology at UCL, Department of Neuropathology
The ESBTB is the first of its kind in the UK. It is dedicated to the study of epilepsy and Sudden Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), providing brain and other tissue samples to researchers for ethically approved epilepsy research. Such research can help elucidate more about why some people develop epilepsy, as well as new treatments and possible cures. There are many useful ways to research epilepsy, but some questions can only be answered by the study of actual human tissue. ESBTB is also equally interested in obtaining brain material from patients who have never had epilepsy as control tissues to compare to epilepsy. The Epilepsy Society Brain and Tissue Bank accepts all donations, which include epilepsy, stroke, tumor, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's etc.
