Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy vs Alzheimer's Disease: Aβ40 (CSF)
Aβ40 is a major component of vascular amyloid deposits (Castaño et al., 1996; Roher et al., 1993). Meta-analysis of two studies showed that Aβ40 levels in the cerebrospinal fluid of people with cerebral amyloid angiopathy were lower than in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease (effect size = 0.753, p <0.0001). A published meta-analysis found that the level of CSF Aβ40 in individuals with CAA was about 70 percent that of controls (Charidimou et al., 2018).
