  1. When do the "earliest symptoms of Alzheimer's disease" become apparent? Evidence is mounting that cognitive deficits can be uncovered well in advance of the clinical diagnosis of AD (e.g., Kawas et al., 2003, Kawas, 2003).

    Similarly, we now know that peptides of APP and alterations in tau can be detected in the absence of any traditional plaque form or frank NFT. It is time that we move beyond the neuropathological stigmata of AD described by Alois Alzheimer over 100 years ago to explore alternate molecular, biochemical functional and structural aspects of tis disease.
