This work demonstrates the efficacy of a simple and affordable nutritive strategy to reduce the risk of cerebral atrophy thereby providing a direct service to human kind. In addition, findings from this study are of significant heuristic value for basic scientists to determine the cellular to genomic mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of folic acid which ultimately can be applied to the design of nutritive / therapeutic strategies to prevent cognitive decline with age.
