  1. Calbindin and parvalbumin were until now both classified as intracellular calcium buffers and therefore no clear physiological distinction were made between them. In this manuscript, Parvizi and Damazio elegantly showed that within the brainstem of the macaque the localization of both proteins does not overlap and that the brainstem nuclei containing calbindin are more vulnerable to neurofibrillary tangles. We therefore wonder what is the link, if any, between calbindin and neurofibrillary tangles formation?
