Description

The lab head in the neurodegeneration and neurologic disease group will be responsible for leading a group of three-five scientists and postdoctoral fellows working to identify and probe novel mechanisms and pathways for neurodegenerative and neurological diseases. Specifically, he or she will work closely to identify, validate, and implement strategies for developing novel medicines for neurodegenerative and neurological disorders, including but not limited to pathways involved with protein misfolding, brain energy metabolism, and neurotransmitter systems.

Responsibilities:

Develop and implement strategies to identify and validate novel mechanisms associated with neurodegenerative and neurological diseases.

Direct and execute experiments that achieve deep mechanistic understanding of disease.

In conjunction with the department head and other lab heads, ensure strong collaborations to utilize and maximize intellectual and technical strengths across the Neuroscience Research Unit.

Collaborate with key internal and external biomedical scientists to drive improved understanding of disease pathophysiology across the drug-discovery value chain.

Requirements

Training and Education Preferred: Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D.

Deep insight into and knowledge of neurodegenerative and neurological diseases.

Established track record of publication, innovation, and interdisciplinary interactions.

Prior experience preferred: Five or more years postdoctoral research experience; track record of leading a scientific team in academia or industry.

Established record of high-quality scientific research.

Experience mentoring junior scientists.
