What is the greatest void to date in our knowledge of Alzheimer's Disease?
Current Trends of APOE in familial Alzheimer's disease
What are the top three papers (not yours) you have read recently?
Fogarty, M. (2001) Genetic testing for people without symptoms of Alzheimer’s. Genetic Health
Genetic testing and Alzheimer's disease, (1998). Has the time come? Recommendations of the Stanford Program in Genomics, Ethics and Society, Nature Medicine 4, 757-759.
If resources were not limited, what research projects would you pursue?
Quantitative Evaluation of Apolipoprotein E (APOE) Risk Factor in Potential Familial Alzheimer’s disease.
Evidence to elivate general public awareness of genetic counseling
What is your leading hypothesis?
Genetic factor component has been implicated in AD patients, the apolipoprotein (APOE) which is a low density lipoprotein receptor . The APOE genotyping included four difference alleles and e4 alleles have been implicated to predispose adult men and women with family history of AD to developing the disease.
The research question is to test the null and alternative hypothesis of changes in the plasma levels of APOE e4 allele in 30 adult men and women over the age of 55 years inclusive with family history of AD compared to 30 men and women without family history of AD (Lindsay, Laurin, Verreault, Hebert, Helliwell, Bill & McDowell, 2002; Creswell, 2003)
What piece of missing evidence would help prove it?
Need access to database to gather evidence
What is your fallback position?
Literature review for evidenced based information
